Having thought this year we would see a drop in entries to our annual campaign and the competition because of the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics we have been pleasantly surprised at your enthusiasm. Sadly with drastic cut backs from Borough budgets a few have dropped out but even here we are heartened by the stalwarts that have entered once more. To our amazement however has been the increase of “In Your Neighbourhood entries”, up 40% and new this year is the Direct entry category which we hope will become popular in the coming years. It is truly remarkable how, and welcoming to see, so many individuals are taking the initiative of taking over the task of brightening up their areas or running allotments where before they relied on their local councils. May it long continue as surely London in Bloom will thrive.
